is legally obligatory for this form to be signed after reading.Informed consent forms are intended to
explain possible risks and complications related with surgical operations as well as to provide information
on alternative forms of treatment. However, this form should not be treated as a document explaining all
possible complications related with all sorts of treatment methods. Depending on your personal health
conditions or medical knowledge, your plastic surgeon might provide additional and/or different
information.
Please don’t sign the form on the last page before reading all the information below carefully and
providing answers to your relevant questions. After learning the pros and cons and possible risks related
with the operation to be conducted, the decision to undergo the operation is yours only.
Before Procedure
Before the procedure, you must inform your doctor about your current and past illnesses, medications
you have used, operations you have gone through, alcohol and tobacco consumption and known
allergies in detail.
Genetic hair loss can be continuous and might take place even after the operation in the areas where
there was hair before the operation. The timing and intensity of such hair loss cannot be foreseen by your
doctor. Due to continuation of loss of your natural hair,a second session of transplantation might be
needed.Verbal information about the hair transplantation method you have chosen (FUE) will be
provided to you before the operation by your doctor. In order to have an idea about the success of this
procedure you can check the photographs from previously performed operations, showing both before
and after status of the patients
Explanation of the Procedure
Hair transplation operation is performed by relocating the healthy hair roots from the back of the
head(area between the two ears) of the patient to the desired area on patient’s head. The purpose of this
procedure is to transplant hair to completely or partially bald areas on the head in order to receive better
appearance compared to current state.
Most of the time it is not possible to reach the state before the hair loss has ever happened. The success
of the operation depends on the thickness, shape and color of the hair, degree of hair loss and hair
density in the area where hair roots are taken as well as the method itself. In order to reach the best
possible state, two or three sessions of treatment may be needed.
Eyebrow transplantation is relocation of hair roots from the back of the head to the areas where there is
rare or no eyebrows. The same technique is used for mustache and beard transplantation as well. It is
common for the transplantation area and the eyebrows to become swollen or to turn purple after eyebrow
transplantation; this peirod should last 3-4 days before they heal by tehmselves. Because the
transplanted eyebrows are prone to grow, it might be necessary to shorten them with scissors from time
to time.
Hair transplantation is performed under local anesthesia. In some cases, sedation anesthesia might be
used as well. Patients to receive sedation anaesthesia should not have consumed any food or beverages
4-5 hours prior to operation.
Although not common, allergic reactions might take place due to local anesthetics or medicine.
Moreover, patients with such as allergic sensitivity cannot be determined with routine tests. In order to be
able to perform the medically necessary surgical interventions, hair transplantation operations should be
performed in hospitals or in surgical centers. Such undesirable incidents can be successfully overcomed
with the necessary precautions and the possibility of a negative effect on the patient can be reduced
significantly.
The duration of hair transplantation operation is between 4-12 hours depending on the quantity of hair
roots to be relocated and the size of the area. Average operation time is 6-8 hours.
After Procedure
The bandage, which is applied after the operation is removed within 1-2 days
Open wound infections and related difficulties in healing of these wounds in the donor area (on the back
of the head) are possible. However, because of the blood flow in the skin where there is natural hair,
such an incident has very low chance to happen and would heal easily and quickly.
The wounds heal in 4-10 days. On the forehead the swelling might last as long as 3-5 days. Some
pimples might be seen at the transplantation area during the growth phase of the hair (between weeks 10
and 20).
In order to reduce the risks of complications after the operation, antibiotics, pain killers, and similar
medicines have to be taken,as prescribed by your doctor and the wounds should be dressed and taken
care of carefully.
In case of a complication related with the operation, you should consult to your operating doctor
immediately, as he is the person to understand the problem and find its solution in the shortest possible
time frame.
Transplanted hair go through a shedding period starting from the third week and this period might last
until the the eighth week. This period is natural and expected. In fact, in rare occasions loss of natural
hair in the vicinity of the transplanted area might take place for a short period. This loss completely
renews itself with growth of new hair.
Transplanted hair starts to grow three months after the procedure, and it might take as long as twelve
months for all of the transplanted hair to start growing including the vertex area. By the end of the sixth
month 70-80% of the desired result is achieved. Final result of hair transplantation is reached in between
18-24 months.
Depending on the quantity of hair roots and the skin condition of the patient there might be some scars
on the donor area of the patient (Tiny white spots).
Some of the transplanted hair might not be successfully take. In our clinic, the hair transplantation
success rate is 90%. Throughout the world 80 -90% success rate is accepted to be very successful.
During the first ten days after the transplantation a personal care period is needed and during this period
you should be in a clean environment. During this period, swelling on the face and eye and healing crusts
on the donor area and implantation area might be seen.
Hair loss is a process which continues throught out the lifespan of a person. Therefore, it might be
recommended to apply some treatments immediately after hair transplantation in order to support the
procedure and procrastinate hair loss. If hair loss continues with your natural hair and denser hair is
desired, secondary operations can be performed.
