After determining frontal hairline with your doctor , a final assessment is made regarding
the distribution of hair roots to be implanted. The choice of density predominancy, the
frontal or crown region, is left to the patient's preference.
After applying local anesthesia along your specified frontal hair line, a tumescent solution
is injected to the implantation area. Now, we are ready for recipient site creation, that is
preparing holes (slits) into which hair roots will be implanted.
Recipient site creation is critical since it dictate the size, angle, direction and pattern of the
grafts to be inserted. Therefore, it determines to a large part the success of the hair transplant
result.
There are many technical details to be considered during recipient site creation.
After determining the thickness and length of the hair roots, holes (slits) are created using
the tools we have called '' lateral slit '', which are specially prepared for individuals hair
roots. In frontal region thinner (since we use 1-2 hair containing grafts in this area ), in
middle and crown region gradually increasing width lateral slits are used.
Why is recipient site creation so important?
In order for the hair follicles to be fed, it is necessary for the holes (slits) to match the
diameter of the hair follicles to be implanted.
If the holes are wide, hair roots can move or be buried in the holes.
If they are narrow, the implantation process becomes very difficult, the operation period
prolongs, and the roots that are implanted may not be fed adequately because of damaging
during implantation.
Recipient sites must meticulously match the angle, the direction, the natural flow and
pattern of the natural hair. These are the most important factors for a natural looking and
aesthetically pleasant hair transplantation. If the hair is implanted in its natural orientation, it
can then be combed and shaped as desired.
Recipient-site creation truly expresses the artistry of the surgeon performing the work. It is
of utmost importance that the recipient site creation process performed by a doctor with
experience and aesthetic vision.
The surgeon is able to create the entire pattern before the assistants begin placing the grafts
and thereby visualize and control the absolute design of the pattern.
The angle of the grafts should be in the frontal region ( hair line) 30 , in the middle part 45
degrees and toward anteriorly. Crown region is especially important and challenging. In
crown region, by following the directions and angles of the existing hair, a natural looking
result may obtained. If there is no hair in crown; on lateral part, slightly outward and 45
degrees, in the middle it is suggested to be forwards and 30 - 45 degrees. In some parts of
crown the exit angles of hair may reach up to 60 degrees. In the lower parts of the crown , the hair turns downward and the angle decreases considerably.
As a result, if all the technical details described are taken care of and if the individualized
planning is done, it will be possible to obtain natural looking and successful results after
hair transplantation.

creation has been executed by Erkut Ozdamar MD.
