Who Can Have FUE Hair Transplantation

There is no specific age limit for FUE hair transplantation, can be done in each generally healthy individual, aged between 18 – 65.

Persons with Male Pattern Baldness ( Androgenetic Alopecia ) are the most common group demanding hair transplantation.

Who can benefit from hair restoration surgery? Anyone who has experienced permanent hair loss may be a candidate for hair restoration surgery, including:

Men with male pattern baldness

Women with female pattern hair loss

Men or women who want to restore or change the shape of their hairline

People with areas of scarring from injuries or burns, and also patients who experienced some hair loss after surgery, such as face lift procedures

People who want to thicken or restore eyebrows and beards.

The most important determining factor here is donor areas size and hair density. All current techniques for hair transplantation involve redistribution of the patient’s existing hair. Therefore ideal candidates for hair transplantation are those who have a favorable donor site surface area and hair density relative to the size of the area to be transplanted. The higher the density and larger the size of the potential donor area ( back side of the head between two ears ) and the smaller the surface area to be grafted, the better the candidate.

The most important prerequisite for this operation: patient should be healthy, and this healthy status shouldn't be harmed by hair transplant operation. The first principle of medicine since Hippocrates: Primum Non Nocere ( First do not harm ).

In patients with a chronic disease and needing continuous medication, a detailed report is given to the physician who follows the patient about transplant procedure, the nature and duration of the operation , anesthesia , medicines to be used. The operation decision is made after an 'approval report' from the patients physician that the paitents suitability for hair transplantation.

Diabetes and hypertension are not contraindications to hair transplantation. Diabetes patients whose blood sugar levels are regular and who do not have secondary complications of DM and Hypertensive patients whose blood pressure levels are under control with medications and do not have secondary complications of HT; can be operated with care and monitorization.

Patients who are using blood-thinning (anti-clotting) medications like aspirin, coumadin, heparin for conditions like cardiac valve surgeries, deep vein thrombosis, atrial fibrillation are not a candidate for hair transplantation. Because cessation of these drugs for these patients have vital risks. Ultimately for an aesthetic operation, we haven't got to take any vital risks.
